Ardgowan Estate Wedding Photographer

Cassie & Scott

Ardgowan Estate Wedding Photographer – When Cassie first emailed me at 2am in the morning saying “please allow me to recognize your photography as inspirational art”  my first thought was it was a friend having a laugh, second thought was if this lovely lady is for real then I WILL shoot her wedding!

Turns out Cassie was infact very real. The reason for the early hours email was that she lives in the states with her fiancé Scott. I was incredibly flattered when she said she had been though loads of websites looking for a photographer and wanted to book me  🙂 .

They had chosen the beautiful Ardgowan Estate as their wedding venue. They planned to travel to Scotland to visit me and the venue after seeing it online. We had a great time on their first visit over. After some lunch together we travelled up to Glencoe for an engagement shoot which you can see here . We spent the time laughing and learning about their family. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them which made me all the more excited for their wedding day.

Twelve months later I was making my way to Ardgowan estate to meet them all for Cassie and Scotts big day! Ardgowan Estate is a beautiful venue only one 1hr drive from Glasgow and I love everything about it. From the ruins, the stunning house, the fantastic grounds and Adrain is wonderful to work with. It is one of my favourite venues and a gem of a place hidden away in the county side.

Family had travelled from all over the world for their big day and the weather even decided to behave so as a result the vows were held outside (there was a slight shower but the sun continued to break through). Thank you Cassie & Scott for letting me be a part of your fairytale day. I’ve been lucky enough to photograph some absolutely incredible weddings .Incredible, because they were full of fun, smiles, laughs and love. Here’s one of them.

Katie & Jamies Winter wedding at The Cruin, Loch Lomond

The Cruin Wedding, Loch Lomond wedding Scotland – Snow peaked mountains, clear skies and fairy lights overlooking one of Scotland most famous Lochs. Its hard to picture a more beautiful setting to get married. And this is exactly where Katie & Jamie decided to say their vows.

I had the pleasure of meeting Katie and Jamie a few months previous. Their couple shoot took place down on the beach over looking Arran. They where so easy to photograph, so at ease with any directions I gave them and so comfortable with each other I knew photographing their day was going to be a joy.

Snow Capped mountains ….

The welcoming feeling on the day was amazing, the whole wedding party were incredibly calm despite having an army of little ones to get ready. Dressed in a fishtail lace gown with full length lace edge veil, Katie walked down the isle on the arm of her very proud dad who could not hide his pride and delight all day with his permanent smile. Jamie was greeted at the top of the isle by high fives from the tiny paige boys and grins from the flower girls. With the backdrop of the snow capped mountains behind them they said their vows with a small audience of close friends and family.

The partying continued well into the evening. Even managing to find time for some sparkler fun outside after the sun set. Flanked by flower girls with skeleton face paints (the face painter must have laughed at those requests from pink lace dressed flowergirls) and their family and friends the atmosphere was fantastic as lights and noise lit up the side of the Loch.

The whole day was a wonderful family affair with lots of little flower girls and paige boys running around. The energy levels and smiles never stopped. Jamie & Katie are two peas in a pod. When with one another they give off such an aura of calmness and this seemed to flow through to the guests and the day.

Thank you so much for booking me to shoot your gorgeous wedding. It was a pleasure from start to finish and wishing you guys all the happiness together.

BAad, Barras Art and Design wedding Photographer

// Ciara & Ross -Fairy Woodland Wedding

BAad Barras Art & Design wedding Photographer -This was the second time I had visited BAad in Glasgows east end. The first time was for a festival and I was intrigued to see how it would look as a wedding venue. I was unaware the venue hosted weddings until Ciara and Ross contacted me wanting to book for their day. Upon arrival the venue had been transformed into a fairytale wedding venue. With the wonderful light streaming through the ceiling mixed with Ciara vision of a fairy woodland theme of ivy, flowers, candles and antlers the venue looked breathtaking.

Ross and Ciara chose this fabulous industrial venue after a last minute cancellation. They filled it with the most gorgeous decoration, going with a ‘Fairy Woodland’ theme, mixing in foliage, apples, antlers and a whole garland of glitter feathers.  They organised their dream day in just two months! However getting friends and family to help make their perfect wedding day happen was no problem as they had some fantastic contacts.

Ciara’s stylish dress had a hollywood glamour look to it. It was designed and made by the talented Wendy at Flossy & Dossy. The go to woman in Glasgow for anyone looking for something unique and stylish.

Ross & Ciara had a real vision of what they wanted from their photographs and I enjoyed shooting out of my comfort zone for the afternoo., I am so used to shooting out in the country or highlands that my first thought was where was I going to take the couple shots in the famous Barras market. Ciara was keen to feature the market in the photos, it was great fun wandering around this location looking at it in a completely different light.

2017 Highlights

2017 Highlights

Romantic wedding photographer Scotland

Finally! Its only taken me 4 weeks to get round to this! My 2017 highlights. It was so hard choosing these as 2017 was better than I could have ever imagined. Shooting couples in Scotland, England, Paris and even Thailand, I had the most amazing year and met such fantastic people. From barn weddings to beaches, Castles to city centres, its been one beautiful wedding after another. And to fill the time between these I have been lucky enough to shoot some of the cutest babies in Scotland from newborns to cake smashes!

We also managed to get involved with some charity work with Reservoir Sprogs baby and toddler event raising money for the romanian appeal and also Loch Lomond rescue boats.

All my couples, families and babies that I have photographed have been wonderful. I loved putting this together and seeing all these faces again on my screen. Iv cried tears of joy listening to vows and speeches, sweated in tropical heat, been booted out the Louvre 😉 stood in amongst groups of sparklers and danced with families in the dark, chased tinys around locations, traipsed around the highlands, had christmas baubles lobbed at my head by toddlers in my studio to name a few and I cant wait to see what 2018 will bring…its already set to be a good one 😉

Claire & Ryan, Leasowe Castle

Leasowe Castle Wedding Photographer // Claire & Ryan

Claire & Ryan

I met Claire on my first day moving into the halls of residence at University. Like me she was loud and full of chat so we bonded immediately. 13 fun filled years later we are still close friends and whenever I think of any fun memories of my twenties she is usually in them. From being a fantastic flatmate (one of the small number of people I can live with although she will talk through every program) to a work companion, my partner in crime and generally my soulmate throughout my uni days I remember thinking if I wasn’t going to marry my husband then Claire was my next choice! She’s been my bridesmaid, flatmate, rock and one of my best friends for the past 13 years so when she got in touch to say she was engaged I was over the moon.

She met Ryan though her work and I could not have dreamt up a more perfect partner for her, he adores her and they are the ideal pairing, he’s the calm to her feistiness, good humored, kind, always puts her first and makes it very clear that she is his Queen. I never thought I would find anyone good enough for Claire but when I met Ryan for the first time I remember thinking, yep, he’s the one!

I was so incredibly honoured when Ryan got in touch secretly to ask if I would shoot the wedding. Yet again evidence of how much he thinks of Claire as it was a lovely thought that it would be a surprise for her that I would take her pictures on her special day.

The venue had to be fit for a queen and what better one that Leasowe castle, with its striking turrets overlooking the sea this venue had it all. Claire choose a beautiful lace gown by Dorothy Rose Bridal which showed of her figure perfectly. Teamed with a diamanté belt detail to show off her tiny waist she looked every inch the glowing bride. The groom looked equally good in his blue suit from Moss bros which was finished off with a soft pink rose corsage to match the bridesmaids colors.

The day was perfect, it rained all week but on the day of their wedding the sun shone all day and mixed with all the laughter and excitement from all the guests it made for an amazing day. I had a brilliant time and loved getting to catch up with Claire, her mum and dad, Ryan and all their friends and family.

Wishing the new Mr & Mrs Hamilton all the luck and happiness in married life

Glencoe Engagement Photography // Cassie & Scott

Cassie & Scott

I will never forget Cassies first email to me. I opened it on a Sunday morning and noticing the time it had been sent was the early hours. It was one of the nicest enquiry emails I have ever had. She compared my work to art and seemed so keen to have me shoot their wedding after trawling through loads of photographers site and falling in love with my photography. I remember thinking the email was so nice and seeing the time it was sent my first thought was its one of my mates winding me up!

Nope! Cassie was indeed real and just as lovely in person. Scott and Cassie live in the states and booked without even meeting me. They where coming over to see their wedding venue in the summer so I suggested we head up to Glencoe for a pre wedding shoot so we could all get to know each other. These two have been up to Glencoe many times when visiting before and where delighted. Although the windy roads are all evidence Cassie needs to convince her mum she is not driving when she come over for the wedding!

The wedding venue is out of this world, the couple actually glow when they are together and are up for any adventure. This wedding can not come soon enough! Roll on 2018! I can’t wait to see this lovely pair again.

12 months of Robyn!

12 Months of Robyn

Happy 1st Birthday little Goblin.

It been a whirlwind of a year! Cant quite believe Robs has been with us for 12 months, feels like she’s always been here smiling away and yet its also gone incredibly fast. The 12 months have been one massive adventure of learning, playing and developing. From being a “little dipper” to a one year old that waves at everyone possible, charms everyone she meets, barks at dogs and calls everything “BA” or “mumumumum” its been incredible.

There are the challenges such as lack of sleep at the start and losing your independence a bit but you forget about it all when they smile at you. Below are some facts I wish I had known before having Robs  and pictures of her over the past 12 months, some iphone shots in there too 🙂

  • The pregnancy bit –

So the hardest part I found about this is the part that no one tells you, if you are use to your independence the moment you announce the news to friends and family you become a bit like an object. People mean well but I found it odd that before my doctors appointments were private, suddenly the world and his wife want to know when they are, what happened at them and when your next one is! It was nice of people but at the same time you feel like a circus attraction.

Invest in at least one pair of maternity jeans (you will probably live in them for the first month after baby arrives!) and one maternity bra, yep there is certainly a gap in the market for pretty maternity bras! Its like someone decided,  your a mum, time to disappear and blend into the background with no style.

Dont spend the whole time worrying about what you have drank or eaten, as long as your not downing shots like a student on freshers week and eat healthy and get regular excercise baby will be fine, happy mum, happy baby.

Antenatal Classes – mildly horrifying and I think if they sent couples to these before you got pregnant to hear all the gory details of labour then you wouldn’t go near your partner ever again! Also if you walk in and there are dolls all over the seats, don’t put it on the floor to sit down, you will be met with a stern look and told to pick your “baby” up off the floor and hold it properly. Wouldn’t advise throwing the fake nappies at each other either, swear they where noting down our details for social services.

Hospital Bag – Don’t be a moron like me and pack like you are going away for a romantic weekend! Your future stitched up sweaty bloody self will want to cry when they discover after labour that you have packed lacy thongs (just the thought of stitches and lace together is wrong), makeup and delicate pretty expensive dressing gowns instead of comfy pyjamas that you won’t mind ruining.

Write that birthing plan, just don’t expect anyone to ever read it. I wrote one which consisted of get baby out safe, you are best to go in with no expectations than this as lets face it thats their job. I would have loved the thought of a birthing pool but was realistic that I was not in charge and just figured that I should go with the flow as it will all be over and done with in 24 hours….or 52 in my case.

When you phone the hospital to say you are in labour, they won’t take you seriously until you are doubled over your car bonnet in agony. At that point its time to go in, before then they will probably encourage your to stay at home and sleep…….not gonna happen!

Take up the offer of a bath in the hospital, its the best thing ever.

Leave your dignity at the door, luckily you are unlikely to see these people again and by the time your 8 cm you will no longer care!

  • Baby is here! Yay what now?! –

Google became my best friend. I remember everyone leaving me on my own on the first night on the ward with her and looking at this tiny alien watching me. The whole time thinking when are the adults going to come and help with this and asking google every question under the sun. “Can newborns choke on their sick?” “What can they see?””Why is baby crying?” “Why doesn’t baby liked bathed?” “Why is baby still crying?” “How long can one person survive on no sleep?!” “Can you die from lack of sleep?”.

Avoid those hospital shower full length mirrors, they are just mean and must be distorted!

There nothing quite like having a baby scream at the sight of your naked body in the shower to help your self esteem. Scott tried to convince me it was just my wet hair scared her….I have my doubts, the look of horror said it all!

Try and get out walking every day, I started as soon as I got out of hospital, yeah its sore, yeah my body just felt broken but it got us in a good routine each day of just being out and about. Plus she slept most of the time and think it got Robs understanding the difference between night and day better.

The colic at night time and the 4am feeds will soon become a distant memory, I remember looking out the window thinking the rest of the world was asleep and it was just me and her and its a lovely feeling knowing this little person depends completely on you. Yes its tiring, yes you will be so tired the days feel like they blur into one, but it doesn’t last long so try and make the most of it because weirdly enough you will miss them when its time to go in their own room and sleep through the night …..its ok though as they will be up again at 7am.

I don’t have any advice on night time routines, Robs started sleeping well from about 5weeks old and I can’t pin point anything special we did, she has always been mixed fed which maybe helped but apart from that I can’t even say we had a good routine as she would get dragged around with us and our busy lives.

Once baby is here give up on dark coloured tops for a while, baby will choose to decorate it for you!

It would take me ages to get Robyn to go for a nap, only for me to sneeze and she would wake up with a fright and start crying….good times.

Robyn hated baths as a newborn, she loved them in the sink for some reason!

I was like a crazy person for the first 6 months, I was convinced someone would steal her! This included worrying that someone would come in an steal her from the house so always locked every door. I also had this irrational thought that she would disappear or that I left her a service station on our many trips and spent a lot of time checking the back seat of the car convinced she would somehow disappear between Southwaite and Tebay services despite not stopping!…

Asda home delivery in your first few weeks is your friend.

The pressure build up inside them of shit is unreal, the fact it could reach up to the back of her shoulder blades was impressive.

Try the baby groups. I hated the thought of these and remember the feeling of wanting to cry at my first one when she was 3 weeks old thinking is this my life now. Give them a go, it takes time to adjust but I have met some great mates in my first steps group who I see every second day now and would have gone insane without these girls. Between the 12 of them there are some amazing characters. Some of them are so inspirational, from the one who travels the world with her three kids and was also the last one standing after our first night back out drinking, to the one I met who felt the same as me and missed her life in the west end of going out and freedom (was nice to realise I wasn’t the only one who didn’t fit into the mum mould).  I have been very lucky to have some good best friends too who have been a permanent fixture throughout my time being pregnant (even flying home from new york early with me) and new life with Robs.

Take them swimming as soon as possible, Robs now loves swimming and its lovely family time.

Babies sound like tiny walkers/ predator at night in the dark. Their breathing and raspy noises are quite scary to try and fall asleep too.

Good luck with trying to watch your favourite tv shows within the first 6 months, unless you can lip read. Robyn had an uncanny radar for knowing when Humans was about to start and would kick off right through it. (She also did the same through her uncles much loved new star wars movie night, only falling asleep as the end credits started.)

Even when you do manage to fall asleep get used to waking in sheer panic throwing the covers around and shoving your partner out of bed convinced the baby is in there somewhere with you….Robyn is one and I STILL have been known to do this. Scared my roommate half to death in Paris shouting “where is she!where is she!” in the middle of the night convinced Robyn was in the bed.

Its amazing I didn’t loose weight faster, Robyn would wait until our dinner was ready and wake up and scream until one of us gave up and played with her. Lost count of the amount of cold super noodle lunches I had in the early days. Used to sometimes balance plates on her back to try and eat lunch as she wouldn’t let me put her down.

Your clothes are a game to them, see what area they can cover in sick that isn’t in your vision.

Hold off getting a mummy hair cut, tempting when at 4 months old not only does your hair fall out but baby will enjoy pulling out fistfuls of whatever is left.

Invest in a jumparoo….best invention EVER! Along with the bottle maker this two things have been the best buys.

By the time they are 6 months old its like living with a tiny pyscho path. Its unpredictable, you can’t comprehend what it will do next. From trying to hurt itself at every opportunity to full force smacking you in the face when you least expect it.

The illusion of having your sleeping baby calmly cosied up to you in bed is a myth, its like trying to sleep with a tiny bully kicking you and punching you in the face and squirming.

Your time is no longer your own, and you will get used to not being able to go to the bathroom by urself anymore. Theres ALWAYS  a tiny set of eyes watching you.

Get travelling! Those trips you always wanted to go on, do it now! We took Robyn to London when she was 5 weeks old and she was no problem, and at 7 months we flew to Thailand for my brothers wedding. She had a ball. yes there where challenging moments, the last flight she was tired and kicked off a bit but wasn’t surprising after 22 hours of travel, the rest of the time she watched Dora the explorer and flirted with all the air hostess. Keeping their skin safe from the sun is hard work but so many more pros, she swam every day, watched the sea and waves, loves eating out in restaurants (home dinners she finds so dull now) and could not get enough of all the lights and music in the bars. The bonus of babies at this age is she can’t crawl yet so she slept in the basinette on the flight and was very content to be in her buggy on long walks during the evenings.

Robs has completely broken me, from someone that rarely cried before and couldn’t really stand to be in the same room as a baby now the premature baby pampers advert has me in tears! Its like she opened the flood gates and now anything baby related has me in tears…BROKEN!

We are far from perfect parents, we don’t have a fantastic routine we stick too or anything but we have tried to keep doing the same things we used to and just bring Robs with us. She came up to knock hill when she was 2 weeks old, flew for the first time at 5 weeks, went swimming at 8 weeks old etc The main thing is I try and just be relaxed about stuff with her, yeah she’s hard work but also great fun. I try not to be scared of doing things like eating out, or going to festivals or traveling with her and she has always loved doing whatever we are doing. We have had a few nightmare situations, the car breaking down  in the snow for hours and no spare food was not good and going out walking  only for it to start hale stoning a mile from the car was also not a highlight. Despite all the craziness it has also been the happiest time ever. To quote my brother “she is the happiest little sprog in the world” and I am convinced she is a little old soul. Its the oddest thing having something that loves you more than anything (sometimes think she does prefer dogs and her toy sophie and Peas the rabbit) and as they start to smile and babble nonsense it gets even nicer. I was so happy before but Robs has brought a whole new level of happiness I didn’t even think was possible, I can’t wait to see what the next 12 months will bring….even if it does consist of my entire wardrobe and floors being covered in yogurt, scrambled eggs, or what ever she has decided to decorate the place in.

(The photos below are not a true representation of what having a baby is like, however I didnt think photos of my messy trashed house, Robs covered in food or other stuff or me in my mum uniform of oversized jumpers and leggings would be quite so interesting on the blog!)

7 Days old and already first party, her uncles 30th in the West End.
2 weeks old and up to knock hill

A Scottish Fairytale Series

Scottish Fairytale Series // Fairytale Photographer Scotland

A Scottish Fairytale Series took 5 years in the making. What started as just a bit of fun one snowy winter when I decided to brave the elements in January 2011 and head up top Glencoe armed with an old camera, a model, some dresses, an assistant (close friend!) and a big imagination turned into an adventure which would continue for years. Every year I put together photoshoots based loosely on fairytales.

This is something i have enjoyed doing and is the reason I picked up a camera in the first place, to create almost fantasy images in some of my favourite locations around Scotland. Because I am so passionate about these shoots as soon as an idea comes to mind nothing stops it happening. To create A Scottish Fairytale Series, we have been battered by the scottish weather with sideways rain and howling winds, walked though knee deep snow with camera kit on a sledge but each one has been an adventure shot in some of the most romantic scenery Scotland has offer….to be continued 😉

For any questions about any of these shoots or if you would like your designs featured in our next one then get in touch.

We have had a fantastic 2016, from travelling to New York, moving house, welcoming Robyn into the world, lots of beautiful weddings, tiny babies and family photoshoots.

With a visit to New York, wedding at Southend Barns, and other beautiful locations in England. We have also had lots of family and baby photoshoots in the studio and out on location.

2017 is set to be a big adventure with a some great weddings booked all over the world! Cant wait to see what this next year will bring.

“You are my sun, my moon, and all my stars.”
E.E. Cummings

So sorry I have not replied to all my emails, I have a load of work emails and messages to return and aim to get back to everyone in the next 24 hours so I apologise if you have not heard back from me yet.

The reason for the late replies is this little lady entered our lives on the 28th of August and has been keeping me busy since. After a 52 hour labour and a five day stay in hospital we finally got to bring Robyn Elizabeth Brennan home and our lives have been turned upside down since. For anyone that knows me they know I am not a major fan of babies. I have been known to leave a room once a baby entered and it was an on going joke at my work that I would disappear if a client arrived with a baby. I loved spending time with clients cute babies on photoshoots but was never a massive fan of the thought of having one. Much preferred animals!

That was until last Sunday morning at 2am, everyone was right and I was so wrong. I was convinced when our baby arrived I would be back shooting weddings 12 days later and back to normal after a couple of weeks. Now she is here I can’t imagine being parted from her. Her dad is equally besotted with her and can spend hours just watching her. Not only has she cast a spell on us but she also has three uncles who adore her and lots of family who have fallen for her too.

Thank you to all the visitors who came and saw us at hospital and for all the lovely gifts she has received, she is spoilt already!

Welcome to the family tiny Robyn, let the adventure begin…
